"Fluid mechanics is the study of behavior of fluids at rest and in motion."
談的就是流體力學主要去理解流體在靜止或運動過程中的行為,亦可進一步地說,流體力學就是建構適當的物理模型去做流體行為的預測,即
"One of the primary aims in studying fluid mechanics is to enable us to predict the characteristic of flow for a given conditions by means of analytical methods."
透過實驗、因次分析了解流體的本構性質(流變性質),以數學工具 (e.g. 物質導數、傳輸定理、複變分析等) 描述流體所遵循的守恆定律,其中包含:
